Faye McQuiston

Faye Clem McQuiston, 89, passed away on January 29, 2017. He was born to Beryl Faye McQuiston and Irene Josie (Tillman) McQuiston in the Sumner, OK, Community on January 23, 1928. He and Helen Webb Whitemore were married at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, on August 16, 1955. Faye began his college career at Oklahoma A&M College, beginning in 1945. After two years, he dropped out to work for his uncle, transporting farm equipment from Oklahoma to several states. In the fall of 1950, he entered the US Army. Following his graduation from Officers Candidate School, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. After serving in the 622nd Engineering Field Maintenance Company in Korea where he became the commanding officer, he was transferred to Ft. Leonard Wood. Following his discharge, he and his new bride returned to Oklahoma State University from which he received the bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (with honors) in 1958 and the master’s degree in 1959. Following graduation, he and Helen moved to Ft. Worth, TX, where he was employed as an engineer at General Dynamics. In 1961, he became a research scientist at Chance Vought Corporation in Arlington, TX. In 1962, he accepted a teaching position at OSU. In 1967, Faye began working on his Ph.D. at Purdue University on a National Foundation Faculty Fellowship and graduated in 1970, after which he returned to OSU. Faye was a registered Professional Engineer and active in The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Over the years, he was very active in ASHRAE, resulting in his being named an ASHRAE Fellow, in addition to serving on many committees, holding a number of offices, and receiving a number of awards. Faye was the author of a number of technical papers and was the originator and principal author of the text, Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning—Analysis and Design, first published in 1977 and which continues to be used in 2017. Faye was an avid golfer and made many golf clubs during his retirement years. He is survived by his wife, Helen, two sons, David (Joy), Steve, and one daughter, Helen Kiklevich (Roark). He is also survived by a sister, a niece, and a nephew as well as numerous cousins.
