Rudolph Miller

Rudolph (Rudy) Miller, 83, was born on September 25, 1934, in Gbely, Czchoslovakia, and passed away on December 10, 2017. At an early age, he came to the United States with his mother, Josephene Brunofski, wife of James Miller. Rudy grew up in the Rochester, NY, area. He received the bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and his master’s degree from Tulane University. Prior to going to Tulane in 1957, he married Helen Carter. He and Helen later returned to Cornell where they both earned their PhD degrees. He spent a year as a post-doctoral student studying in Groningen, Netherlands. Rudy and his family moved to Stillwater in 1962 where he accepted a temporary position at Oklahoma State University. He spent the remainder of his career at OSU, retiring in 1990. Throughout his academic career, his research focused on fish behavior. During his time at OSU, he served as department head for a number of years. In addition to his higher-education career, he was an artist, painting wildlife and landscapes. His works were sold in galleries in several locations through the US. Rudy is survived by his wife, Helen, and three children and their spouses: Mark and Brenda, Mike and Hideko, and Leslie and Kate Coffee, as well as two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
