Beulah Hirschlein

May 4, 2018

Beulah M. Hirschlein, 83, was born on January 16, 1935, near Mangum, OK, to John and Zelda Luker and passed away on May 4, 2018. Following high school graduation, she attended Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College for several years, leaving to be with a sister, a young widow, where she met John Hirschlein, whom she married. John was in the United States Air Force, and they moved to New Jersey, later moving to Stillwater to attend Oklahoma State University, where Beulah received three degrees. After completing the PhD in Human Development and Family Science in the early 1970s, Beulah was offered a position in the OSU College of Home Economics (now Human Sciences). Although she taught many courses in family relations and child development, one course was of particular interest to her, voluntarism. This led to her serving in several leadership positions in a number of local charities. Beulah’s outstanding teaching record, in addition to her serving in a number of local, state, and national leadership positions, coupled with her research performance, resulted in her receiving the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in 2012. Beulah is survived by her husband and a number of family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, brothers Allen, James, and C. Virgil Luker and a sister Johnnie Rosentretter.
