Ladora Chesbro Smith

Ladora Chesbro Smith, 100, passed away in Stillwater, OK, on April 28, 2018. She was born to Tommy and Golda Crane in Mannford, OK, on February 24, 1918. Following high school graduation, she attended Oklahoma A&M where she met Ray Chesbro. Following his graduation, Ladora and Ray were married and moved to Texas where Ray worked for Mobil Oil. Eventually, they moved to Haskell, OK, where they owned an ice plant. Ray and Ladora were the parents of four children: Tommy, Jack, Bob, and Jody. After Ray’s passing, Ladora completed her bachelor’s degree in home economics. She later completed the master’s and doctoral degrees at Oklahoma State University. For a time, she served as associate dean of human environmental science at OSU. Eventually, Ladora married Lester Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, husband Lester, and four siblings: Eugene, Gerald, Dean, and Geneva as well as by her son Tommy. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Shirley Wright Chesbro (Tommy’s wife); son Jack (Pam) Chesbro; son Bob (Sally) Chesbro; and daughter Jody (Jarrel) Maxwell as well as by several grandchildren.
