Membership Committee

Sharon Nivens reported 99 letters were sent out to new retirees the 1st of February and from those letters sent we have 3 new members. She encouraged us to let our friends know about our meetings and topics in order to get more interest and new members. She also sent out reminders to pay dues.

They are working on the new Directory. Vickie is working on a new picture for the cover. A draft will be sent out prior to printing. It should be completed and sent out mid-March with a copy of the Spring News Letter inside. She asked if it is OK with the group to include in the Memoriam; members who have passed away and have not been a member for some years. We all agreed this is a fine thing to do as some of them have moved away or have been so ill they could not attend meetings.

Interest Groups

Making the Most of Retirement: Zane reported the February meeting “Arm Chair Travel" had the highest interest and attendance.

  • March program – Transition to Assisted Living

  • June program – Louise Schroder will present “Aging in Place”.

Coming Up Events

We looked at the brochure on “Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative”. Stillwater Public Library will host these sessions; being held on the 3rd Friday of each month at 10:00. Anne mentioned she will get a copy of this brochure/schedule to Misty for circulation. She will also send Misty the information on the Amish Trip for circulation.

University/Faculty Standing Committee Reports

Faculty Council met February 9. President Hargis reported excitement over the news that American Airlines would be providing direct flights from the Stillwater Airport and the cost would be only $30 to $50 more than flight from OKC or Dallas. Parking at the Stw Airport is free. Building on campus is on schedule. The Performing Arts Center will have 1100 seats. The budget projections remain of great concern.
